I wanna learn Korean. What to learn first, what are the steps? by Mustafa Qamar-ud-Din
Answer by Mustafa Qamar-ud-Din:
I’ve started learning Korean back in 2007. I was fascinated by this far eastern culture and for sure Korean Drama. However, I was more interested in Artificial Intelligence, Smart Cars, and Robotics. Korea is one of the leading giants in this area.
There was a completely free two year course in the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo, Egypt. It should be part of every Korean Embassy world wide. I guess it’s a good start, if you could just drop by and ask.
The first thing to learn is the Korean Alphabet called “Hanguel”. There are plenty of videos out there. Then, you will find a few introductory courses available online such as one by KBS;
The American Foreign Service Institute provides very good courses;
Then, when it comes to certification, I’ve applied for Test of Proficiency in Korean TOPIK. I received a score of %94 and stamped by the department of higher education in Seoul. There’re three levels for TOPIK, and the third one is almost difficult for Koreans living abroad.
Finally, you should have some Korean friends to practice with.
